A Wedding Photographer’s Self-Isolation | Week 2
So it’s week two and I can’t deny things started to go a little weird. The week started with the clocks going forward. In itself that’s not a big deal, but when you couple that with a few late nights in front of the computer, the odd sneaky afternoon snooze and a lack of structured workdays, I’m now struggling to fall asleep before 4 am. I’ve basically reverted back to my student body clock. My 20-year-old past-self could handle that as his sum total of responsibilities was getting to a handful of lectures each week and making sure we were stocked up on £4 bottles of Vodka. My 37-year-old self has two kids that don’t give a shit about my new found sleep pattern and drinking £4 bottles of vodka at midday is now frowned upon at my age.
Sleeping patterns aside, you truly know the apocalypse is upon you when your wife has cut her own hair and I’m two weeks into growing an isolation moustache. Now when I say moustache, I kind of mean something that a 13-year-old would grow. Facial hair, or my lack of, has been the bane of my adult life. I’m tempted the fill in the gaps with a Sharpie pen 🙂
At one point this week I watched an hour of a Youtube channel where a guy commentates on marbles going round a track as if it was F1 race. Now I’m not saying I’m losing the plot, but I excitedly got Alex watching too and we both went ballistic when the pink one overtook the blue one. Have I checked Amazon to see if you can buy marble race tracks? Yes…Send help people
It wasn’t all ‘mental breakdowns’ though this week. I picked up the guitar for the first time in a long while. It’s been so long since I played properly that my fingers hurt like mad after just 10 mins of playing. Still, I sang some of my old tunes and might even do a Facebook live thing next week.
We’ve played card/board games as a family and the garden fun has continued too. The love for the Mega Drive has basically spread around the house. I even flexed my man skills by learning how to hack it so I can play any Mega Drive game I want on it. To say I’ve enjoyed playing NHL93 & Streets of Rage again would be the understatement of the year.
We ended the week on a high with Ethan’s Birthday on Sunday. We did our absolute best to make it as fun as possible. Emily asked for family and friends to record him some birthday messages and he got some nice gifts. We had another BBQ, planted flowers, made a worm house and caught creepy crawlies to look at. The dude had a wonderful day.
Here’s some week two pics
